The 2011 Committee

Paddy Hudson - Captain

I’m Paddy, a third year Information Systems Engineering student and I started rowing with ICBC as a novice three years ago. All my rowing has been with IC and I’m really proud to be part of the club. Top moments, so far, include finishing 23rd in the Eights’ Head 2011, competing at Henley Royal, our yearly tanning camp to somewhere warm and sunny, and generally bare rinsing the lightweight events at British University Championships. I live at the boathouse flat and can [occasionally] be found at college in the Electrical Engineering building. Come and say hi if you want to chat about anything.

Jess Johnson - Women's Captain

I'm Jess, a 3rd year Physicist and Women's Captain for the next year. I joined ICBC as a novice cox in 2009, knowing my lack of height and less-than-athletic physique would make me a far more successful cox than rower! I'm often around the club [or eating waffles in Crew Room down the road...] so do come and find me if you have any questions you'd like to ask.

Simon Steele - Treasurer

I started rowing when I was 14 as an excuse to not play cricket or tennis at school. Despite having never been sporty before, I really enjoyed the competitive side and soon started to get a taste for those early mornings when the water is beautifully still. I've competed with mixed success at both national and international level and I'm going into my third year studying Biochemistry at Imperial. If any one has any queries about financial matters regarding the club, feel free to come and find me and I'll try to help sort it out.

Gareth Brown - Secretary

I’m currently a 4th year Aero Eng undergrad at Imperial. I’ve been rowing since I was 11 and have had success at all but the highest levels of the sport. My aim over the next couple of years is to break into the GB U23 squad and to have a great time doing it!

I’m the secretary this year so if you have any questions about membership (of ICBC or British Rowing), racing entries or just anything you’d like to be discussed at one of our committee meetings then I’m the person to talk to!

Libby Richards - Press Coordinator

Libby is a cox who joined ICBC in 2008, having noviced during her time at Cambridge, and the change from the narrow meandering Cam to the massive tidal Thames was a big shock initially. Personal highlights so far include unofficially coming first in the Womens Academic 4+ in Fours' Head of the River 2008 (time only due to illness); attending the Heineken Roeivierkamp 2009, her first international racing experience; making the Friday of Henley Royal Regatta 2009 in the Prince Albert Challenge Cup; winning Gold in the Men's Championship 4+ at BUCS Head 2010 and triumphing with the Lightweight Championship 8 at BUCS Regatta 2011.

Libby is currently studying for a PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute division of Imperial. Her work aims to identify some of the genetic causes of resistance to chemotherapy in lung cancer patients.

Are you a current rower, an alumnus, a public member, a potential member, a member of the Royal Family, an Olympic Medallist? Have you something to say? If so Press Coordinator Richards would like to hear from you. Contact: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Ben Spencer-Jones - Kit Officer

I’m a 2nd year medical student with a passion for rowing kit. If you have any suggestions for new Imperial kit or questions about how to get hold of any, I’m your man [I will probably be skulking around the dumbbells somewhere].

Rory Sullivan - Sponsorship

I am a third year Civil Engineering student, I've been rowing since I was 14 and am getting pretty fed up with it now so have tried to branch out into the admin side of the sport [not really, rowing is great]. My proudest moment in rowing thus far would have been leading off the Scullers' Head 2010, however a sticky situation involving Ben Anstiss and my bow ball made me late for the start and crushed all dreams of glory!  Imperial Boat Club is a top notch club full of really cool people and I look forward to lots more success in blue, black and silver! Anyone fancy giving us huge wads of cash, just get in touch.
